i couldnt have been more than 10 years old when i first heard(tell me something good)that song ripped through me like nothing else could...A small boy humming the rythym guitar to this song in a classroom,and remembering my teacher at the time telling me to be silent,but i could not...1st theres the awesome rythym,then u have  chaka omg,then those lyrics,,mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

 of 11  she began singing with a group called the crystalettes...the  name(chaka kahn) was created soon after  she spent time helping out at the black panther breakfast program for a bit...

where did the love go????????

wooooooooooooow,,,,this incredibly gifted individual kicked me in the face with his voice when i heard the track he did with another 1 of my favs (Cherrelle)with a track called saturday love,,,it is a duet that if u dont know about it,,,shame on u 4 real....I felt the need to do this post because R&b is dying in our hearts,,,,we 4 got how to love our women,,we 4 got how to talk to our women,,we 4 got how to simply talk to a women.....It seems to me that the feelings that we have in our hearts and minds about a women is to embarrasing to mention...that is indeed a sad state of affairs...I  grew up with 3 lovely sisters and they taught me alot about treating a women.....A corny ass poem from time to time,,holding hands,walking in the rain,slow dancing in ur fucking living room to the song that was on that made u ask her to dance in the club,,,whatever whatever.....WE all have our issues,,lord know im not perfect,,by any stretch of the imagination,,but i like to think that love is alive in our hearts,,,if ur on this page right now,,,then ur listening to some funky ass jams that i picked out,,i hope u like em baby...............theres so much i can say about this cat like,,,he once was in a group called (flyte time),,which also included(jimmy jam and terry lewis)he was also in the group (the time) 4 a minute,,,,fall in love again,,before its to late or she leaves ur ass for not taking the time to understand her buddy......

Ode to a Guru

How did I find this crazy guy? Well I have known him for 3 decades. We lost touch for 2 of them. Why? cuz we were stupid kids who took things way too seriously.....and probably cuz we are artists  were way too sensitive. Though we didn't know it at the time.


Marble Hill Kids! I lived in Building 4. He lived.......OVER THERE as we would say in Building 6. Building 5 was the divide for the us & them .....hahahaha There's Afro Boy my friend & I use to say. Cuz Man did he have a FRO on him.


Well as Teens things changed...And due to some things that we now chose to move on from, I stopped speaking to A- FRO Boy.


So now it's August 29, 2007, His name pops in my head. Not as Afro Boy, Not As Alexie F., but as the name his Mother gave him.


I typed ALEXIE FIGUEROA in the Myspace friend search bar & pressed search. Up pops 3 accounts. 2 w/out pix & one private page w/ a guy standing in front of a very cool house. It looks like him I thought. But his Afro is gone. Hahaha…I was curious. So I sent a note thinking. A)…he won’t remember me or B) he won’t answer. So I said the obvious…..” Did you use to live in Marble Hill?”


The strangest thing about learning about the past is that as children, we never touch on the important stuff. I learn that he was writing as a child….just like me, he jammed to Rock music…..just like me, he was club hopping……..just like me, and he fought artistic demons…….just like me. And he was only 2 buildings away spinning vinyl in his room.


I asked Alexie….That’s Alexie F to you…hahahaha……. If he would insert a passage in my book. He would randomly write stuff & send it via Myspace to me & I was like THIS SHIT IS GOOD. “is it published I would” He’d say “ nah ma,,,,,i just came up with that out my head” So why was I then surprised when he told me to take out a pen & paper & he just spit out what he was feeling @ that moment for my book. He said “i want page 67,,,,,the year i was born” Makes sense to me.


I have been calling Alexie my creative guru since Nov. 2007. He was one of 3 people who forced me into releasing my poems to the public.


Yeah, He’s a trip….Yeah….He’s stubborn….but w/out that…..What is my Priority? would not exist. The words would be in my journal till my dying day.


So next time you contact this cat tell him thank you……..If he asks you “Y”……Tell him……..”for being you”

my childhood in the hood was the shit....

.igrew up watching some incredible black images on the tele,,,and i learned alot from them....the best advice that i can give any young child growing up in these crazy times is,,,know the difference between whats real and whats not...these movies were fun to watch,,but at the same time,,this shit aint 4 everybody....great music,,,great characters,,,great stories....surely these movies paved the way for some fly ass shhhhhhhh...im a 70sssss baby and proud of it

i was so excited that i was gonna post this sh right here,,,,no no no this shit right here...omg when i saw this movie for the 1st time,,,hahahahahahahahahaaa,,it was late on a saturday night,,hahaha,,had to keep the tv low,,mom dooks was hawking my play....this movie is going to mature with age,,,i mean just the intro scene alone as he is driving through harlem,,wooooooooow,,,it just blew my mind.....do urself a favor if u have not yet,,,go and buy this movie,,im g0nna watch mine tonight....

i remember when i 1st heard him rock a track.....that kool ass voice,,with the kool ass track,,,im trying to have great memories and possitive thoughts....i was supposed to interview him a while ago with my ex partner,,,but that never came to be......my prayers are with u fam.....love ya....goodluck ........
