New York State Of Mind
(Photos courtesy of Diz-E Image of A.T.B. Fine Artist & Designers LLC)
THE CRAZY THING ABOUT THIS INTERVIEW IS ,,,,THAT IT WAS NEVER SUPPOSE 2 TAKE PLACE. …I FELT THAT THE TRANSLATION ASPECT OF IT WOULD VISUALLY LOOK UNCERTAIN,,,, B/C OF THE STOP GO STOP GO ASPECT OF IT. … SPONTANEOUSLY MEETING HIM ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 22,,,,,, WAS FAR MORE THAN WHAT I EXPECTED. MEETING AN ARTIST FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD, ,,,WHO IS JUST AS PASSIONATE ABOUT HIP HOP,,,, IF NOT, MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT HIP HOP WAS SIMPLY AN ABSOLUTE JOY. …I HOPE YOU ENJOY AN INSIDE LOOK OF AN ARTIST WHO IS GOING MAKE A LOT OF NOISE
Below is the translation made by Hideko Bartell. Answer #2 on the video was mistranslated so it was corrected below. Answers # 4 & 6 Alexie F forgot to allow the translation to take place. We apologize for the mistakes but we hope you enjoy the video.
Answer 2. My art was born when I was struggling to maintain after quitting a corporate job I worked for 7 years to open my own business while juggling multiple part-time jobs working 12 hours a day. So the works from the early stage were all "anger" and "frustration" in its facial expression. For the future plans, I would say, "I'm going to be the best artist in the world." that is with, "going to" not with, " I hope I will " or " I hope I could be" It's what I believe. When I say " the best in the world", it means to me that I'll support the art, funds and environment for the next generations and I'll do it world wide, to show the world that we can change the world to become normal for people with dreams that they CAN support themselves by doing what they love to do. I've struggled a lot in the past but I want others to have a better world and do not give up on themselves, and keep challenging their best till they change their situation, not changing their direction by giving up, and I want to be the one to change the world to become that way. I opened up "The Haku Ryu Art School" in Shonan Japan in 2012. I'll continue teaching the vision beyond art.
Answer 4. My art pieces piled up to over 370 by the time I started uploading my work on social networking sites. One day someone from my FB network asked me If I want to enter a contest in France, and that was the reason for the submission and I happened to be awarded then.
Answer 6 ( the last one ) Hip Hop to me is "Energy", "Positive Vibration" and "Motivation" I feel it in my soul and it fits my own energy so well.
I WANT 2 TAKE THIS TIME,,,, TO ESPECIALLY THANK ARTIST HAKURYU RYU, ,,,,HIDEKO BARTELL (TRANSLATOR), ,,,,EASY MO BEE & LAST BUT NOT LEAST B/C SHE SURELY CAME THRU IN A PINCH BY BEING MY CAMERA GIRL FOR THIS INTERVIEW ,,,TRINA SLADE-BURKS a.k.a. DIZ-E IMAGE

Happy 40th Birthday Hip Hop
This is of my generation. Raised in the Bronx, blocks away from where it all began. The music, the art (which my daddy called mess) the lifestyle, the block parties, the fashion…….all is a part of my culture.
My dad was a motorman w/the MTA & I remember him saying to me (knowing I was an artist) “I better not catch running the trains.” Meaning, don’t go underground tagging. He has no idea that the only thing that kept me outta there were those BIG AZZ RATS….lolol
My boy Cool Joe (Joseph Pando) always kept me up to date on the latest joints. After I would leave the parties, the next morning I would have my list of what LP’s I'm buying.
One of the concerts I went to was the Krush Groove Tour w/my home girls. Part of the movie was filmed in my neighborhood. As a young adult I was blesses to work for a company that introduced me to many hip hop artists (in person) & worked closely with an up & coming magazine. (The Source)
So many great memories from childhood to adulthood.
My high school years were a celebration of the lifestyle.
I was recently told, that there is no more Hip hop…What I say to that is…though mainstream entertainment has managed to waterdown the Hip Hop culture as they have done to Jazz & R&B…that will not change the historical premise of what this scene was all about.
It will NEVER die. Thank you to Kool Herc for being the driving force of a culture that made the Bronx relevant.
Remember it started in THE BRONX first….From the words of the Notorious B.I.G “…If you don't know, now you know”

GETTING TO KNOW HIM
Alexie Figueroa (Alexie F) has embraced music and the gift of words ever since he can remember. At an early age his father put bongos in his hands, setting off a spark that became a flame. The bongos led to congas and song writing followed. His respect for the art of music is uncanny. Besides bongos & congas, Alexie plays piano, drums & guitar. He wrote lyrics to his first song at the age of 12. One of the greatest connections for him was the fact that he literally lived around the corner from the birth of Hip Hop, Sedgwick Avenue.
Alexie F’s passion for music allowed him to embrace many genres which includes, Rock N Roll, R&B, Salsa, Hip Hop, House, Meringue just to name a few. In the early eighties, he gained admission into one of the hottest house music clubs, the Paradise Garage. That experience changed his life forever. Music writing & arranging was truly in his blood.
By the 90's, he scored his first production credit with a group called AURA. Alexie wrote the local smash "Trust Me Boy". He later worked for Sparkle Management as an A&R person under the direction of George Vascones assisting such artists as Marc Anthony, George Lamond, T.K.A, Judy Torres, Two without Hats and Sam Savon.
Alexie F also wrote for the Harlem Nites Press contributing a monthly poem for their "What's Going On" column. In 2004, he began his 5 year run as co-host along-side Eric “EDAYE” Daye on the Hip Hop radio show THE ZRO HOUR, which started out as a show on Galaxy Plus a Haitian pirate radio station in Brooklyn and ended up being one of the first Hip Hop podcasts broadcastings on the internet with a huge following. He interviewed the likes of Lin Q, Milk Dee & Eternia just to name a few.
In 2009, Alexie F branched out on his own and started his own online entertainment company called Afro Boy (with the assistance of artist/author /art & event coordinator Trina Slade-Burks) which introduced to the world his unique interviewing style through his Vlogs and Q&A’s as well as his distinctive commentary to the variety of music from the past and present that he respects. Some interviews include the 5th Column camp, Hip Hop’s Marco Polo, Grammy award winner Easy Mo Bee, r&b singer Goapele Grammy nominated r&b artist Jon B & MindScApe Entertainment ® founder J Rag of J Rag Publishing. He has also produced his own online radio show called the Alexie Figueroa Show, which made its one year anniversary March 10th.
His writings have appeared in two poetry/art books What is My Priority? & 2Faced: the Devil’s Advocate as well as in a cookbook entitled Soul Much More from Scratch. Alexie F is in the process of writing 3 books, one which is in production called Sex Rules which he has already launched a lingerie line for it. And because of his love of fine art in 2010, Alexie F collaborated with A.T.B Fine Artists & Designers LLC. as one of their New York art reps. If he doesn’t seem like he has enough on his plate, He is in the pre-planning stages for some upcoming projects & partnership with MindScApe Entertainment ®. So if you think Mr. Figueroa isn’t busy enough, you are sadly mistaken.

Q&A W/JON B,,,, HIS JOINT DROPS 2DAY
What up Jon!
From me & my asst. Trina Slade-Burks, we would like thank you for allowing us to be in the jonbworld.com launch.
Alexie F:What can your fans expect on this new release?
Jon B: Expect to hear a diverse mixture of classic records of mine from over the last ten years. These are 23 select joints that were never included on any of my previous albums; I felt were special enough to share with my fans.
Alexie F:23 joints!!!!! (Slang for songs) Wow! This is the most you have ever put on one album. What inspired you to do that?
Jon B: Now that I have my own label Vibezelect Inc. I feel that is more important to show the overall creativity that goes into the making of one my albums. I think this shows my diversity as an artist.
Alexie F: Comfortable Swag was released 2012,,,B-side Collection ,2013,,,,Are you planning to release something every year?
IJon B: think I will continue the release of my projects based off how I feel a project is coming along. If the next album takes longer so be it. Just know that there are no longer any other chefs in the kitchen besides myself making it take any longer than needed.
Alexie F:The 1st time I listened to your song Quality Time, I was actually going thru the exact same thing in my relationship,,,,,& it brought an incredible amount of comfort to me.. How does it feel when your fans tell you that you move them w/your music?
Jon B: I will say a record has two lives. The life of the original experience that was lived that influenced the record but also the effect the record has on the lives lived by the people that hear it and love it. In every instance that is incredible.
Alexie F:Your music seems to adapt with the times, yet still maintaining that Jon B original feel. Does your eclectic taste in music have anything to do with that?
Jon B: I will always continue to show my diversity with music, as well as my take on what’s happening musically at the time. I feel there are so many sides of myself to share with world why not? I'd like to keep the world guessing when it comes to what I'll do next....
Alexie F: I like the color scheme of the album,,, the burgundies & dark colors. Who’s idea was that?
Jon B: It just so happened that the burgundy background as well as the other backgrounds were just randomly there in the photo studio and we made it work. I think it has a sensual mood to it .I have always liked the color burgundy and the stripes are very 80's rock.
Alexie F:Should we be expecting any new videos coming from the new album?
Jon B: I am working on a new New album right now actually. I feel b sides’ episode is done and I'm very happy to have released it just to share all this great music through the years.
Alexie F:You are in the business of writing about love. What does love mean to you?
Jon B: Love means holding on to what means the most to you with a sense of protection and devotion.
Alexie F:Do you have a personal favorite song off the album?
Jon B: Pure Love.
Alexie F: Do you think your daughter is going to follow in her daddy’s footsteps musically?
Jon B:I hope so she's very musical naturally already.
I want to take this time once again, to thank you & your wife for always allowing me to get a quick word in w/you. Hug & kiss the little one for me.
